Grand Spaulding Dodge did not attempt to covert a small block car to a 440 until the 1968 model year, but if Mr. Norm had swapped a 440 into a 1967, this is what the car would look like. Similar to the original 50 GSS conversions in 1968, this car was converted to legendary Mr. Norm - Grand Spaulding Dodge (GSS) standards with a 1968 Dodge RT date coded 440 Engine. Just like they did in 1968, in order to fit the larger engine, the K member was modified to make room for the oil pan, a modified engine mount was attached near the oil pump, and the battery was relocated to the trunk. All of of the cars in 1968 were built with the Torqueflite automatic transmission and this car is no exception. Other performance upgrades include the aluminum radiator, super stock leaf springs and complete 440 exhaust.
This Dart GT is one of those cars that immediately turns heads as it rolls down the street. It has that authentic, high-performance lope that is both smooth and menacing at the same time. It starts so easily and will sit and idle forever, but don't be mistaken, this Dart can produce copious amounts of raw horsepower that makes any enthusiast do a double take. Driving down the road it is extremely reliable. It stays cool, travels straight, shifts seamlessly, turns easily and stops swiftly.
The paint is a stunning Dodge dark blue metallic. Rather than the standard black or red, the dark blue color conveys a classy yet mildly intimidating feeling giving the impression there is much more to this Dart than what meets the eye. The brightwork is largely original and in fantastic condition. Set off by the redline tires and dog dish hubcaps, this convertible is the ultimate sleeper.
The interior, including the dash, seats, convertible top and carpet are all in excellent condition. All original gauges work including the auxilary SunPro oil, temp and voltage along with the vintage Stewart Warner column tach.
The undercarriage, including the frame, frame braces, floor pans and trunk are all in original, unmolested condition.
This is just a very rare, very cool example of American ingenuity and American muscle. This Dart is incredibly easy to drive and very reliable, yet beneath it's refined exterior is what truly makes this car timeless, vintage Mopar horsepower!
